Before the cutter, the question is whether the tablet may be split at all, and that is a question for the pharmacist and the label, not for us: FDA says splitting is approved only when the label says so, and most sustained- or timed-release tablets are not meant for it. Once that is settled, the cutter’s job is a clean break on the score line, and the difference between the cutters here is how the tablet is held while the blade comes down. The V-shaped cradle centres a round or oval tablet, the safety shield closes over the blade so a thumb never meets it, and the dispenser models tip the halves into a chamber you can pour from.
