01Millilitres, not kitchen spoons
Oral syringes marked to 5 and 10 mL with a bottle adapter that draws straight from the bottle, calibrated droppers to 1 mL, medicine spoons with a graduated stem, spoon-droppers for a child who will not take a syringe, and packs of 1 oz cups.

The whole shelf exists because a kitchen teaspoon is not a unit. The American Academy of Pediatrics asks parents never to measure medicine with a household spoon, and an NIH-funded study found that parents who thought in teaspoons had twice the odds of a dosing error. Everything here is marked in millilitres. The oral syringe is the most accurate of the lot: it draws the dose from the bottle through the adapter, the plunger stops where the label says, and the tip goes into the cheek rather than down the throat. The dropper is for a fraction of a millilitre, the spoon-dropper for a toddler who opens for a spoon and shuts for a syringe, and the cups are for an adult’s cough syrup, ten at a time.

This page is general information about medication tools, not medical advice. Whether a tablet may be split or crushed, how much of a medicine to give and what to do about a missed dose are questions for the pharmacist who filled the prescription and the doctor who wrote it.
Prices are figures from our last update; the Ezy Dose approach updates them on a schedule, and the figure at the till is the one that counts.
02Before you order
What people want settled before they buy an oral syringe.
The 5 mL for an infant, where a half-millilitre matters and the marks are spaced for it; the 10 mL for a toddler’s two-teaspoon dose in one draw. Check the label chart by the child’s weight before age, and ask the pharmacist to show the dose on the syringe you will use.
Through the bottle adapter: it presses into the neck of the bottle, the syringe pushes into it, the bottle turns over and the plunger draws the dose up without pouring. The cap goes back on over the adapter between doses.
The spoon-dropper: it fills through its stem to a millilitre mark like a dropper and feeds like a spoon, so a toddler who opens for a spoon gets a measured dose. The calibrated medicine spoon is the same idea with a graduated hollow handle.
